Poacher held with tiger skin in Uttar Pradesh
November 15th, 2011 - 12:25 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, Nov 15 (IANS) A poacher has been arrested with a tiger’s skin in Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi district, police said Tuesday.
Krishna Kumar, 28, was nabbed Monday from Pahadia area after a joint operation by the district police and the forest department officials. His two aides escaped.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that Kumar has been in the illegal wildlife trade for around five years,” Deputy Superintendent of Police D.K. Singh told reporters in Varanasi, some 300 km from here..
“He also used to operate in Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh,” he added.
Police are yet to ascertain where the tiger was killed.
Kumar, a native of Uttar Pradesh, has been booked under various sections of the Wildlife Protection Act.
