“Several districts of Uttar Pradesh, particularly those in the western region are experiencing heat wave,” state Met director J.P. Gupta told IANS on telephone Monday.
“Rise in the mercury is due to change in the wind pattern caused by a series of western disturbances in parts of the country,” he added.
According to the Met Office, such a weather pattern would continue in the state “for at least next 48 hours.”
On Monday, the maximum temperature in Lucknow was recorded at 38.9 degrees Celsius, which was six degrees C. above the average.
Temperature five degrees Celsius above the average is considered as heat wave by the Met department.
