New Delhi, Dec 28 (IANS) Worried over increasing incidents of leopard mortality due to human-leopard conflicts, the environment ministry has formed a committee to suggest safeguard measures. The five-member committee will appraise the causes for high mortality of leopards in some states and suggest generic safeguards and mitigation measures.

The members include Brijendra Singh and Valmik Thapar from National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) as well as other wildlife experts Raghu Chundawat, Vidya Athreya and Kartick Satyanarayan.

“The committee is yet to meet and then we will decide our working plans,” Chundawat told IANS.

There has been an increase in cases of leopards being killed by people after fearing attacks from the big cat.
