New Delhi, Oct 7 (IANS) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Friday said several steps have been taken to protect flora and fauna in the country but the developmental needs of a rapidly growing economy is testing the ability to preserve wildlife.
In his written message, put on the environment ministry’s website, on the ongoing Wildlife Week Oct 1-7, Singh reiterated the country’s resolve towards conservation and protection of its natural ecosystems and fascinating biodiversity.
“Though several steps have been taken to protect and conserve our flora and fauna, including creation of network of protected areas across the length and breadth of the country, the developmental needs of a rapidly growing economy is testing our ability to preserve wildlife,” he said.
The prime minister urged the people, especially children and youth, to become the torch bearers in taking forward the critical agenda of conserving and protecting India’s rich cultural heritage.
