“The low temperatures were recorded mostly in places located in western parts of the state. The coastal belt, however, remained warmer,” an official of the Bhubaneswar meteorological centre told IANS.
The places that recorded low temperatures include Sambalpur (5.7 degrees Celsius), Sundergarh (5.9 degrees Celsius), Angul (6 degrees Celsius), Bhabanipatna (6.5 degrees) and Jharsuguda (7 degrees).
The coastal towns of Puri, Gopalpur, Paradip and Chandbali recorded minimum temperatures of 14.2, 13.6, 11.9 and 10.0 degrees Celsius, respectively.
The cold wave condition is likely to prevail in the interior part of the state during the next 48 hours, he said.
Although normal life was hit in the regions that recorded low temperatures, there was no report of any loss of life from any part of Orissa due to the cold wave conditions, the state revenue control room said.
