Orissa heat wave toll now 11, media puts it at 64
April 22nd, 2010 - 9:37 pm ICT by IANSBhubaneswar, April 22 (IANS) One more person died of sunstroke in Orissa, taking the toll due to heat wave in the state to 11, an official said Thursday.
Budhu Oram died April 18 in district headquarters of Sundergarh, 407 km from here, officials added.
“The government has confirmed today (Thursday) that he died of sunstroke,” an official of the state revenue control room told IANS.
Local media reports and non-official sources, however, put the toll since March at 64.
Orissa is reeling under intense heat wave with several areas witnessing high temperatures.
The industrial town of Talcher in Angul district, 169 km from here, Thursday recorded the highest temperature with a maximum of 45.9 degrees Celsius, he said.
Several other places which recorded high temperature included Sambalpur (45.2), Hirakud (45.0) and Jharsuguda (44.6).
Temperature in state capital Bhubaneswar and nearby Cuttack city was recorded at 39.5 and 38.8 degrees Celsius respectively.
