One held with spotted deer skins in Bengal

Kolkata, March 8 (IANS) A man was arrested in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district with skins of three spotted deer Tuesday, police said.

“Acting on a tip-off, officers of CID’s Special Operation Group, trapped Sehabuddin Gazi from Kamalgaji,” said Deputy Inspector General of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) (operation) Rajiv Mishra.

“Our officers trapped Gazi by posing as buyers of deer skins,” said Mishra.

During interrogation, Gazi revealed that all three deer were killed in the forests of Sundarbans, bordering Bangladesh.

“He said that organised rackets of poachers are active there and they had asked him to sell off the skins for Rs.1.2 lakh,” he said.
