New Delhi, March 21 (IANS) The northern Indian plains have been getting warm over the past few days, and the weather is turned just perfect for Holi, the festival of a colour splash. Friday in the national capital was a moderately warm day with the maximum temperature hovering around 34 degrees Celsius. The day’s low was a comfortable 17 degrees Celsius.

Most parts of the northern plains also saw temperatures being 4-6 degrees above normal. The Met Office said that the current temperature trends are likely to continue for the next two or three days from Friday.

Many parts of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and the union territory of Puducherry received heavy rain Friday due to a low-pressure trough over Cape Comorin.

The trough’s effect also caused rain over coastal areas of Karnataka and is expected to intensify during the next 48 hours till Sunday, the weather office said.

While Chennai city Friday recorded 11 mm rainfall, Bangalore and Thiruvananthapuram witnessed 10.3 mm and 48.9 mm of rain respectively.

The following were the maximum and minimum temperatures and rainfall in major cities for the 24 hours till Friday morning, with figures in brackets denoting deviations from the average.
