New Delhi, Nov 13 (IANS) With only about three weeks left for the UN climate change conference in Copenhagen, the Indian government announced that it has completed the formulation of the implementation plan for the National Solar Mission.
The Mission, part of India’s National Action Plan on Climate Change, had been first announced by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in his Independence Day speech. He had said that it will be launched on Nov 14, to mark first Indian prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru’s birth anniversary.
But, the launch may get delayed a bit now.
“The recommendations of the Mission have been finalised and an implementation plan has been formulated after a series of consultations both within the government as well as other stake holders outside the government. The Mission will be launched as soon as the approval of the government to the recommendations has been obtained, which is expected shortly,” said a press release of the Prime Minister’s Office.
It added that the Mission document has already been approved in principle by the Prime Minister’s Council on Climate Change at its meeting held on Oct 26. “In formulating the recommendations, the various suggestions and comments made by the Council members have been taken into account,” it said.
