Muggy Monday in Delhi, more rains expected (Lead)

New Delhi, Aug 16 (IANS) Delhiites experienced a muggy Monday with heavy rainfall lashing parts of the city. The weatherman has predicted more rains for Tuesday.
“The skies will remain cloudy and one or two spells of rain or thundershowers are expected in some pockets of the city (on Tuesday),” an official of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

The maximum temperature recorded Monday was 32.8 degrees Celsius, a notch below the average, and the minimum was at 26.7 degrees Celsius, one above the average for this time of the season, the official said.

The humidity level oscillated between a high of 94 percent and low of 74 percent.

“The maximum and minimum temperatures on Tuesday are likely to be around 33 degrees Celsius and 26 degrees Celsius, respectively,” the official said.

The capital received 3.4 mm of rainfall till 5.30 p.m. Monday.

The total rainfall for the season till Monday morning was 448.9 mm, nine percent more than the average, the official said.

Meanwhile, a portion of Jaswant Singh Road caved in due to heavy rain resulting in long traffic snarls around India Gate, according to Delhi Traffic Police.
