New Delhi, Aug 6 (IANS) It was a muggy day in Delhi Saturday even as parts of the city received rainfall in the morning. The Met office forecast showers for Sunday.

“The city received 0.4 mm of rainfall from 8.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. Saturday, while a major part of the city was dry,” an official of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

“The maximum temperature settled at 33 degrees Celsius, normal for this time of the year, while the minimum was recorded a notch above average at 26.9 degrees Celsius,” he added.

According to IMD, the humidity levels wavered between a high of 95 and a low of 79 percent.

The scattered rainfall and the humid weather was a major spoilsport for Delhiites, who couldn’t make plans for the weekend and were confined to their homes.

“It’s raining at my friends’ place near India Gate but here it’s dry. Moreover, you don’t feel like going out in this high humidity,” said Supriya Shah, a 21-year-old student, a resident of north Delhi’s Model Town area.

Meanwhile, Sunday could be a wet day, as the Met office has forecast cloudy skies and thundershowers in some parts of the city.

“The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to hover around 34 and 27 degrees Celsius, respectively,” added the IMD official.

Fridays’ maximum temperature settled at 34.6 degrees Celsius, two notches above average, while the minimum was 26.5 degrees, a notch above average.

The city has so far received a total of 210.4 mm of rainfall this monsoon, which is 38 percent below average, according to the IMD.
