Muggy day in Delhi, high humidity to stay (Lead)
September 10th, 2010 - 9:14 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Sep 10 (IANS) Delhi residents experienced a hot and muggy day Friday with high humidity levels. The sultry weather is set to continue with the weather office predicting high humidity in the next few days.
“Light rains in few areas of the city and the high levels of humidity will continue for a few more days,” said an official of the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The maximum humidity was recorded at 94 percent while the minimum came to 63 percent.
“The temperature will remain high. The minimum was at 26 degrees Celsius, which is two notches above average, and the maximum recorded was 34.5 degrees, a notch above the average,”the official said.
The maximum and minimum temperatures Saturday are expected to hover at 34 and 27 degrees celsius, respectively.
Absence of rains brought respite to some Delhi residents who have been facing a flood threat posed by rising water level of the Yamuna, which Friday morning stood at 206.6 metres - well above the danger mark. The river waters crossed the danger level of 204.83 Thursday evening.
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) reported 18 water logging complaints, nine fallen trees and three fallen buildings complaints from Thursday morning to Friday evening.
The rainfall from 8.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. Friday was 3 mm.
According to the IMD official, the national capital has seen one of its wettest monsoon this year with the season’s total rainfall touching 823 mm.
