More rain, snowfall forecast for Himachal

Shimla, Feb 14 (IANS) Himachal Pradesh may see more rain and snowfall in the next three days, aggravating the cold wave in the region, the Met department said Monday.”Heavy to moderate snowfall and rain are likely to occur at many places in the state during the next 36 hours (until Wednesday),” an official statement said.

The weather office said some places in Kangra, Kullu, Chamba and Lahaul and Spiti districts would experience heavy snow till Feb 16.

Most of the tourist places in the state like Narkanda, Manali in Kullu district, and Kalpa in Kinnaur district have been experiencing moderate snowfall since Sunday morning.

Kalpa recorded 15.4 cms of snow, whereas Manali saw 51.4 cms of snow.

The state’s lower areas like Dharamsala, Shimla, Solan, Nahan, Chamba and Mandi received moderate rain.

Shimla Monday recorded a low of 4.2 degrees Celsius, while it was 1.6 degrees below freezing point at Kalpa, 3.7 degrees in Bhuntar and 2.2 degrees in Dharamsala.

Keylong, district headquarters of Lahaul and Spiti, was the coldest place in the state with a low of minus 5 degrees Celsius.
