Monsoon withdraws from Orissa
October 28th, 2010 - 8:15 pm ICT by IANSBhubaneswar, Oct 28 (IANS) The southwest monsoon withdrew from Orissa Thursday after a delay of about two weeks.
While over all rainfall was normal during this year’s monsoon season, the state received 15 percent less rain fall from June 1 to Sep 30, S.C. Sahu, director of the Bhubaneswar meteorological centre, told IANS.
Orissa received 992.7 mm of rains from June 1 to Sep 30 against a normal of 1169.3 mm during the period, he said.
However from Oct 1 to Oct 28, the state received 21 percent more rains against the normal. It received 138.3 mm of rains against a normal of 114.5 mm, he said.
The delayed withdrawal of monsoon will not have any adverse impact on rabi crops, state agriculture minister Damodar Rout told IANS.
The rains in the month of October would rather help the rabi crops, he said.
