Chandigarh, March 5 (IANS) Haryana Excise and Taxation Minister Kiran Chaudhary Saturday denied harassing an Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer in the state.
“I have not done anything wrong. Everybody knows that I have always stood against corruption. I am not ashamed of whatever I had done because I am totally clean,” Chaudhary told reporters here.
“You should not ask me anything about this issue because I am not handling the forest department. You should ask questions to the right person,” she added.
Chaudhary was Haryana forest minister from 2005 to 2009.
A 2002-batch IFS officer, Sanjiv Chaturvedi, had complained of harassment by the Haryana government for following the Supreme Court orders and taking action against violators of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
Chaturvedi was transferred 12 times in five years and was later suspended.
A two-member committee of the union environment ministry, appointed by the cabinet secretary, gave Chaturvedi a clean chit and highlighted the harassment suffered by him at the hands of the chief minister’s office. The committee recommended a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the matter.
Following the committee’s report, President Pratibha Patil revoked his suspension in January this year.
