Mercury touches 44 degrees in Orissa town
May 10th, 2011 - 11:52 pm ICT by IANSBhubaneswar, May 10 (IANS) A heat wave continued to grip several parts of Orissa with the industrial town of Talcher recording maximum temperature of 44 degrees Celsius Tuesday, the highest in the state, a met department official said.
The other places which recorded high temperatures include Sonepur at 43.5 degrees Celsius, Angul 43.1 degrees, Titilagarh, Bolangir and Sambalpur 43 degrees each and Sundergarh 42 degrees Celsius.
Some of the beach towns such as Puri, Gopalpur and Paradip remained comparatively cool recording a maximum temperature of 34.2, 33.2, and 33 degrees Celsius respectively, an official of the Bhubaneswar meteorological centre told IANS.
The mercury however remained several notches above normal in state capital Bhubaneswar with maximum temperature rising to 40.6 degree Tuesday from 38.6 degree Monday, he said.
The official said there will be no change in the heat wave conditions during next two days.
