Raigarh recorded a maximum of 46 degrees. The temperature is set to increase further, an official said Wednesday.
“Normally the temperature in the state remains 40-42 degree Celsius till the end of April but several cities surprisingly recorded above 44 degree Celsius Tuesday with Raigarh topping at 46 degrees,” senior metrological department official M.L. Sahu told reporters.
“Since the hot wind coming in from Rajasthan is sweeping across the state, the temperature is set to record further increase,” he said.
Raipur and the state’s second most populous town Bilaspur recorded 44 degrees Celsius Tuesday forcing the residents to remain indoors.
Health department officials said dozens of heatstroke-affected people have started flooding hospitals in the Bilaspur, Raigarh, Korba and Surguja districts.
