New Delhi, March 16 (IANS) Even though the Met Office figures would say that it was ‘mild’ weather Sunday, the blazing sun and a warm afternoon reminded the residents of Delhi that the summer is knocking on their door. Unlike the past week when day’s high around 30 degrees was accompanied by overcast sky and a breezy pleasant weather, Sunday in capital was warm and many had to seek the solace of fans and air-conditioners. The maximum temperature crossed the 30 degrees Celsius mark by over two notches.

The Met Office has forecast that the mercury’s upward trend would continue in the coming days. The maximum temperatures were 4-5 degrees Celsius above normal over most of the northern plains.

As the north braces for the heat, it is already raining in some parts of southern India and parts of northeastern states.

The Weather Office said many parts of Tamil Nadu received - “isolated heavy rain fall” - weather office jargon for fairly good showers in many parts of the state.

Kerala, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya will also receive rain for the next couple of days from Sunday, the Weather Office said.

The following were the maximum and minimum temperatures and rainfall in major cities for the 24 hours till Sunday morning, with figures in brackets denoting deviations from the average.
