New Delhi, June 18 (IANS) Temperature remained below the season’s average in Delhi Saturday, a day after showers cooled the capital. The Met office has forecast more rains over the weekend.

“Skies will remain cloudy and thundershowers are expected to hit the city tonight and tomorrow (Sunday),” an official of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

“The maximum and minimum temperatures will hover around 37 and 27 degrees Celsius,” he added.

Saturday’s maximum and minimum temperatures were both two notches below average at 37.3 and 25.6 degrees Celsius respectively.

The humidity levels wavered between a high of 84 and a low of 51 percent, said the IMD official.

Being a weekend, the pleasant weather was the perfect excuse for Delhiites to step out of their homes towards the evening.

Some indulged in window shopping while many with their families and friends thronged the Central Park in Connaught Place, India Gate central visatas well as open spaces like the Nehru Garden in the diplomatic enclave.

“We will spend some time here then go for dinner. I hope it rains heavily tonight,” said 28-year-old Sanjay Bhoj, a businessman visiting Central Park with his family.

Delhi was lashed by showers Friday, receiving a total of 12.8 mm of rainfall. Many trees were uprooted and many areas were flooded as a result of the heavy showers.
