Mercury dips as cold wind sweeps Delhi (Lead)
January 27th, 2011 - 10:57 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Jan 27 (IANS) Cold winds swept the national capital Thursday, bringing down the day temperature below what is normal for this time of the year. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the minimum temperature recorded early in the day was a notch below the average at 7 degrees Celsius while the maximum settled at 18.6 degrees Celsius, three notches below the average.
The IMD attributed the drop in day temperature to snowfall in the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.
There was fog in the morning and low visibility procedure (LVP) was required to be implemented at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport for over an hour.
“About 63 domestic and international flights were operated during the LVP,” said an airport official.
The minimum and the maximum temperatures Wednesday touched 7.2 and 22.6 degrees respectively.
