Mercury crawls up, northern plains bask in warm weather

New Delhi, Feb 22 (IANS) The mercury has certainly started to crawl upwards and those in Delhi and the national capital region have begun to don lighter clothing. But the weather man forecasts there might be a bit of sting still left in the winter. The maximum temperature in the national capital was 27.4 degrees Celsius while the Met Office has said that maximum for Saturday could be around 28 degrees Celsius.

After being in single digit for months, the minimum temperature in Delhi Friday climbed to 10 degrees Celsius. But the Met Office said that the northern region could well see a fall in the minimum temperatures by two to three degrees Celsius beginning next week.

The lowest minimum temperature in the northern plains was 6.8 degrees Celsius, recorded at Amritsar in Punjab.

The Met Office has also forecast mild rain or thundershowers in some parts of West Bengal, Sikkim, coastal Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

The weather in the rest of the country will remain dry.
