Magnitude 6.3 quake shakes Taiwan

- On Monday, July 13, 2009 at 18:05:02 UTC (Tuesday 02:05:02 AM local time) an earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale shook Taiwan. USGS reports the depth to be 24.7 KM deep.
According to reports by users of Social networking site twitter, the quake was felt as far away as Taipei, 135 km (85 miles) from the epicenter.
Twitter user latelyontime describes the incident as “The buildings just shook in Taipei. Tremors lasted for a few minutes. Bad memories of Gujarat earthquake have suddenly flooded in!”
Another user bradspolding reports, “feeling dizzy from the earthquake in Taipei”
taispy adds, “I do believe this is the first time in 4 yrs in Taiwan that an earthquake actually knocked things over in my apartment.”
No tsunami warnings were issued following the earthquake. Currently there are no reports of any dammage.
Users on twitter are able to spread the news about such natural calamities much faster than conventional news outlets.
