New Delhi, May 4 (IANS) Light showers in the national capital Monday evening brought some relief for Delhiites from the scorching heat of the last few days, the weatherman said. Residents of the city came out of their homes to enjoy the weather as the mercury dipped radically.
“After the rain, I and my fiance decided to meet as the weather was so romantic. We have planned to go out for a walk at India Gate and enjoy the cool weather over some ice-cream,” says Sonali Bhambri, assistant manager with a private insurance company.

Following the showers, the mercury dipped radically from 41 degrees Celsius in the morning to 37 degrees Celsius by late Monday afternoon.

“After a long and hectic day at work, if one gets to chill out in this awesome weather, then there is nothing like it. My friends and I have made plans to hang out together in the evening at Citicafe, a roadside cafeteria, to gossip over a hot cup of coffee,” says Sakshi Khullar, an employee with CitiBank.

Avichal Singh, 21, a call centre employee, said: “I took out my bike and went for a long drive. Then I stopped at a sweet shop and had ‘pakoras’ and ‘jalebis’.

“The reason of this rain is a depression over Rajasthan which will continue on Tuesday as well,” a Met official said.

The day temperature Monday touched 41 degrees Celsius, which was two degrees above normal for this time of the year. But it was not unbearably hot.

“The dust storm and thunder storm which has been giving way to a drizzle in some parts of Delhi over the past two days, have kept the temperatures lowered. The weather will most likely remain the same over the next few days as well,” an official of the Safdarjung Met department said.
