Leopard mauls six in Uttar Pradesh
December 25th, 2010 - 11:06 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, Dec 25 (IANS) A leopard injured six people, including two minors, after straying into a human habitat in Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur district Saturday, officials said.Teams of forest officials are camping in the Bhawaria village, the site of the attack. The injured are being treated at a hospital and are out of danger.
“The leopard is presently hiding in the sugarcane fields of the village. We are making every effort to drive the leopard back to the forest,” Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) R.S. Singh told reporters in Gorakhpur, some 300 km from Lucknow.
“We have asked the villagers not to venture out in the fields alone,” he added.
According to officials, the leopard came from the Tilkonia forest range, which is around 2 km away from the Bhawaria village.
