Leopard kills girl in Jammu and Kashmir
August 26th, 2009 - 4:29 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Jammu, Aug 26 (IANS) A leopard killed a 13-year-old girl in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir Wednesday, triggering fear among residents.
A wildlife official said the leopard emerged out of the forest and caught the girl who had gone to fetch water to the Manjakote area in Rajouri.
“The leopard mangled the girl. By the time villagers reached, the leopard ran back to the forested area. The girl was rushed to the hospital where she succumbed to her injuries,” the official said.
Angry residents blocked the Jammu-Poonch highway at Manjakote for more than two hours, demanding protection from the leopard. The residents alleged that the authorities were not doing enough to make them secure.
