Leopard kills five-year-old in Uttar Pradesh
September 30th, 2009 - 1:33 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, Sep 30 (IANS) In yet another case of wild animals attacking humans, a leopard killed a five-year-old boy and mauled three others in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich district, forest officials said Wednesday.
The leopard, which is still to be trapped, strayed into Bahraich district’s Kanda village Tuesday and attacked the locals, killing Mahesh, the five-year-old boy, they added. Bahraich is about 270 km from Lucknow.
“The leopard has triggered panic in the entire village. We have advised the locals to stay in groups till the animal is caught,” R.K. Singh, divisional forest officer (DFO), told IANS.
“Efforts are on to either catch the leopard or drive the animal towards the forest area,” he added.
Till now nearly 13 cases of leopard attacks have been reported from different villages in the district this year. Since January 2009, leopards in Bahraich district have killed three people, including Mahesh, officials said.
