Leopard kills boy in Uttar Pradesh
October 27th, 2010 - 1:42 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, Oct 27 (IANS) A leopard killed a 12-year-old boy in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich district after straying out of a forest reserve, an official said Wednesday.
Hariram of Navtod village was mauled to death by the leopard in the Nishangadha range of the Katarniaghat forest reserve.
“The adult leopard Monday attacked Hariram in the village and dragged him to the forest area where his mutilated body was found Tuesday,” Divisional Forest Official R.K. Singh told reporters in Bahraich, some 130 km from here.
It is for the first time that a leopard has killed a human in the Nishangadha range of the wildlife sanctuary, he added.
As per the last census conducted in 2005, Katarniaghat forest reserve is home to at least 32 leopards.
