Leopard creates scare in Raipur, injures two
March 17th, 2011 - 12:46 am ICT by IANSRaipur, March 16 (IANS) Residents of Chhattisgarh’s state capital Raipur Wednesday found an unusual guest, a leopard, strolling on the streets. It created panic and injured two people before being caught by forest officials.
The forest officials were surprised when they got a call from residents of Urla area about a leopard strolling on the city roads. A team was rushed to catch the animal, but it had already injured a woman and her three-old-daughter by the time it was caught.
Later, the leopard was taken to Nandan Van Zoo, situated on the outskirts of Raipur. The forest officials said they were clueless about how the leopard managed to enter the city.
In a similar incident, a leopard was found in a shopping complex of Raipur city in May 2009. It was caught by a forest department team after eight hours of exhaustive efforts.
