January 9th, 2012 - 9:47 pm ICT by IANSJammu, Jan 9 (IANS) Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir were Monday finally able to move to their respective destinations passengers stranded on the Jammu-Srinagar highway.
However, there were passengers still stranded in Jammu, Udhampur and Srinagar cities. “They would be allowed to move to their destinations once the highway is fully operational,” Chief Minister Omar Abdullah told reporters at Udhampur, 66 km north of Jammu.
“All the stranded passengers have been provided with boarding and lodging facilities free of cost. They are being looked after,” he said.
The Chief Minister also claimed that by late Monday evening the highway would be fully operational for traffic.
Omar was talking to media on the sidelines of a police function.
The Jammu-Srinagar highway had been closed due to landslides and heavy snow since Friday last.
