International summit to discuss water resource management
April 12th, 2011 - 6:00 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, April 12 (IANS) An international summit, beginning here Wednesday, will explore new eco-friendly strategies and technologies in the management of water resources and ways to ensure sustainable development.
The three-day convention is being organised by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) in consonance with the ministry of water resources, a top official said Tuesday.
Vice President Hamid Ansari will inaugurate the event, which will also address the challenges and opportunities of water security and climate change.
TERI director general R.K. Pachauri said: “Climate change is aggravating the stress on water resources, shifting the regular monsoonal patterns, frequency and distribution of rain spells, and increasing the number of floods and droughts.”
“In this context, the convention will explore vast opportunities in developing technically viable and economically feasible solutions for sustainable governance and integrated management of water resources,” he said.
The convention will have a range of technical sessions to discuss various issues on the current status of water resources and proper management plans that will assist in developing appropriate strategies.
Leading policy makers, industrial experts, researchers and water practitioners will take part in the event.
