India not doing enough to safeguard environment: Survey
December 20th, 2009 - 5:32 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )New Delhi, Dec 20 (IANS) Even as India presented a tough stand at the Copenhagen Climate Summit, majority of Indians feel the country is not doing enough to safeguard the environment, a survey said Sunday.
According to an online survey by organisation CMS Vatavaran conducted during the Copenhagen Summit which concluded Saturday, two-thirds of the respondents said climate change will affect economy, health, agriculture and others sectors.
Most of the respondents said sectors like health and economy would be worst affected but 90 percent of them thought that not enough was being done to safeguard the environment.
As the climate change talks in Denmark ended Saturday with the passing of the Copenhagen Accord, almost 76 percent of the respondents said developed countries were trying to impose their policies on developing and underdeveloped countries.
“As many as 71 percent of the respondents supported the government’s stand at Copenhagen and said India will benefit from the accord,” the survey, which was conducted among 254 online respondents across India, said.
