Colorado, Apr 10, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The hurricane forecasting team of the Colorado State University has predicted that the hurricane season of 2010 can give the US residents enough reasons to worry about. This is an above average season for hurricanes. The US coastline may face a significant threat as a result. The six-month season is likely to witness more or less 15 storms of varying intensity. The probability of a severe hurricane hitting the US coastline is there, as the study has concluded. However, the team also said that the pattern of the hurricanes may change with time.
The hurricane prediction also indicates that Haiti may face a severe hurricane. This is bad news for its residents who are still recovering from the devastating earthquake that rocked the island a few months. AccuWeather, which is another prominent Hurricane watcher has also said that 2010 will see some severe hurricanes lashing the US coastlines. Some storms may also become Category 3 hurricanes. In the last few years, the USA witnessed Hurricane Katrina which wreaked havoc in the nation in 2005.
The hurricane forecast is based on the study that a Pacific Ocean current, El Nino, will dispel this year. The water temperature in the Atlantic is also thought to be above normal, which is another cause. It is also well known that the Texas coast water’s temperature is on a rise. High temperature in water bodies and oceans play a significant role in storm formation. Those who are waiting for the forecast of the National Weather Service would have to wait till May. However, till now all predictions have hinted at the possibility of severe hurricanes in the USA.
