rick1Mexico City, Oct. 18, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The hurricane Rick escalated in to a Category 5 storm over the weekend. It is being billed as the second largest hurricane to have passed over the North Pacific ever since 1966 [the time from when experts began keeping a tab on such records]. Over the span of Saturday, Rick took turn in to the monstrous form it presently is in and is developing off the coast of Mexico. As of on 11 p.m. EDT Saturday (GMT Sunday), the center of the storm was said to be located at nearly 295 miles (475 kilometers) southwest of Manzanillo in Mexico.

Rick is now being labeled as being extremely dangerous, by the National Hurricane Center that is based in Miami, sustaining winds of speed that reached up to a limit of nearly 180 mph (285 kph). One assurance however comes from the news that some of the force and velocity of Hurricane Rick would be fizzled out by the time that it reaches the periphery of the land. According to the records of the meteorological department, it has been revealed that the storm is all set to remain well off the coast of Mexico for the next few days.

An ensuing result of the huge build up of pressure by the storm has been the arrival of huge tidal waves in the sea waters as well as the ushering of furious gusts of winds. It is because of this reason that authorities in the resort city of Acapulco had to close down the port to the small vessels in an attempt to avoid any mishap.
