Hurricane Otto forms over the Atlantic Ocean
October 8th, 2010 - 9:46 pm ICT by BNO NewsMIAMI (BNO NEWS) — Tropical Storm Otto strengthened into the eighth hurricane of the Atlantic hurricane season on late Friday morning, forecasters said.
As of 11 a.m. EDT, the center of the hurricane was located approximately 715 kilometers (445 miles) south of Bermuda and was moving toward the east-northeast near 28 kilometers (17 miles) per hour. On the forecast track, Otto is likely to near the Azores as a tropical storm early next week.
Otto’s maximum sustained winds are near 120 kilometers (75 miles) per hour, with higher gusts. Some additional strengthening is expected, but Otto is not expected to strengthen into a category two hurricane.
