Hurricane Guillermo Threatens Hawaii
August 14th, 2009 - 10:45 pm ICT by GD
Right on the wake of the Hurricane Felicia terrorizing Hawaii recently, there is the looming fear of another swift hurricane breaking upon the island.
Hurricane Guillermo is reported to be developing far out over the Pacific Ocean and head on its way to the islands in Hawaii. According to the observations of the National Hurricane Center, the maximum sustained winds that the fledging hurricane is said to command presently is somewhere around 75 mph. Most likely there is a chance that by the end of Friday, Guillermo would gain more strength and velocity.
There is respite for Hawaii in the news as before it breaks upon the island, the hurricane is expected to weaken considerably. The reason for that is that by Saturday, Guillermo is expected to move over cooler water, which is going to impact on its development then on. The National Hurricane Center has stated that the center of the hurricane is located approximately at about 1,100 miles west-southwest of the Southern most tip of the Mexican Baja California peninsula. The direction that it is headed towards is west.
It has only been yesterday that Hawaii saw the final remnants of the Hurricane Felicia drift away and it is heard that Guillermo is roughly treading the path of its predecessor. As Guillermo breaks down over Hawaii, it is expected to bring a lot of rain and some winds to the islands once more. Good news is that, like Felicia, Guillermo too is expected to downgrade to a mere tropical storm in it’s final leg of journey. However, authorities are being cautious this time too as a reverse situation cannot be ruled out, so they plan on gearing up to brave the onslaught.
Since Guillermo still has a lot of water to travel over, what state it might be when reaching the island cannot be pin pointed from on now.
