Hungary Toxic Sludge May Reach Danube

Hungary Toxic Sludge Hungary has declared a state of emergency after 7 villages in its territory was affected by a massive toxic sludge and the government called the incident as a environmental catastrophe. According to sources 15 square miles of area have been ravaged by the toxic mud and a lot of properties have been severely damaged. The casualty stands at 4 and more than 120 people have got injured. The officials however think that the number of dead can go up since some people are missing and the condition of some of the injured people are said to be serious. The government is taking all necessary measures for evacuation and medical treatment of the affected people. Now the officials are thinking that the waste may finally reach the Danube river within a few days which will ensure a bigger ecological disaster. The waste will require near about one year to be cleaned up say the officials. It will cost huge amount of money too.

The environment ministry of the country has said that in Romania the water quality in Danube river is being monitored continuously to see if the amount of pollutant has shot up after the sludge flood. The sludge was produced in an aluminum production facility and the reservoir collapsed. The victims who have come in contact with the sludge have suffered serious damages to their skins and doctors warn that the effects could be prolonged and more severe than they appear.

The plant where the reservoir is located has been shut down and the government in Hungary has asked the company to repair the reservoir to stoop further leaking.
