Hot day in Delhi, mercury set to soar (Lead)
May 1st, 2011 - 3:45 am ICT by IANSNew Delhi, April 30 (IANS) It was a hot and humid day in Delhi Saturday as the mercury soared to 40.8 degrees Celsius, three notches above average, and the Met office forecast the temperature is “likely to rise in the days to come”.
The day began on a scorching note as it was the hottest morning of April in the city, with the minimum temperature at 27.9 degrees Celsius also turning out to be four notches above what is an average for this time of the season.
The maximum humidity stood at 52 percent, added the official.
“There has not been much change in the temperature on Friday and Saturday. However, the maximum temperature is expected to rise over the next week,” said an official from the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
April this year has been the coolest in the last 10 years. According to the IMD, around this time last year, the temperature had soared to 43.7 degrees Celsius.
