iceFeb 4, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Houston Independent School District (HISD) has declared that all the schools under this region will remain closed on Friday. This would even include Fort Bend and Galveston ISDs in the state of Texas. The main reason behind this close is the harsh winter weather that might affect the area severely on Friday.

According to the latest weather reports, there might be strong possibilities of snow and sleet all over the Houston region on early Friday. Mike Iscovitz, a FOX 26 Meteorologist said that the area, which would perhaps be the most vulnerable to the harsh weather conditions, is Highway 59. Reportedly, this area can accumulate more than three inches of snow on Friday. The temperature may come down to less than 30 degree Fahrenheit. Galveston area near the coast might have to witness heavy rainfall. This may disrupt the functioning of the public transport and thereby, traveling in may eventually get riskier. The schools under the authorities of Houston Independent School District, Fort Bend and Galveston ISDs, had closed down their schools earlier on Thursday itself to avoid any unexpected mishap. HISD had even declared that there would be no after school activities on Thursday, like athletic events, or school trips etc. Liberty High School, HISD Twilight Schools and New Aspirations School canceled their classes in the early hours of Thursday.

Some reports also say, that the closure might even continue for another week, until the wrath of the weather comes under control. Nevertheless, this is more of a gain than a loss, as several football freak school kids would now make full use of this opportunity to enjoy the Super Bowl that is scheduled on February 6.
