Shimla, Nov 22 (IANS) The higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh may experience more spells of snow, the weather office said here Monday.
“The high hills of Lahaul and Spiti, Kinnaur and Kullu districts may experience another spell of snow, while the mid and low hills would experience rain and thundershowers by Tuesday,” Manmohan Singh, director of the meteorological office here, told IANS.
Keylong, headquarters of Lahaul and Spiti, was the coldest with a minimum temperature of minus 0.4 degrees Celsius.
Kalpa in Kinnaur district saw a low of 1.5 degrees Celsius, while it was 4.6 degrees Celsius at Sundernagar in Mandi district, 4.4 degrees at Bhuntar in Kullu district and 8.5 degrees Celsius at Dharamsala in Kangra district.
Shimla recorded a minimum of 8.7 degrees Celsius, while the maximum was 18.1 degrees Celsius.
Anticipating heavy snowfall, the government has already issued an advisory against crossing the Rohtang Pass, located at an altitude of 13,050 feet and 50 km from Manali in Kullu district, either on foot or in a vehicle.
The weather at Rohtang Pass, which is the gateway to the Lahaul Valley, is harsh. A sudden drop in the temperature, even in summer, can trigger winter-like conditions.
