Heavy rains lash Delhi for second day, more expected (Lead)
September 3rd, 2010 - 8:35 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Sep 3 (IANS) Delhi was lashed by heavy rains for the second consecutive day Friday and the city once again reported serpentine traffic snarls due to waterlogging.
According to the traffic police, traffic jams were reported from Minto Bridge underpass near Connaught Place and Karol Bagh - one of the busiest markets in central Delhi, Ring Road and Badarpur Road on the Delhi-Faridabad border.
A total of 32.6 mm of rainfall was recorded Friday till 5:30 p.m.
The capital recorded a minimum temperature of 26.8 degrees Celsius, a notch above average for this time of the season, while the maximum was 34.4 degrees, which is normal.
The humidity levels were on the higher side with the maximum and minimum being recorded at 97 percent and 64 percent, respectively.
Predicting more showers Saturday, an official of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said: “The skies will remain cloudy and some parts of the city are expected to get one or two spells of rainfall or thundershowers.”
The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to hover around 34 and 26 degree Celsius, respectively, he added.
Delhi has recorded 743.4 mm of rainfall so far this monsoon, which is 36 percent above average. In August alone, the capital received 455.1 mm of rainfall - almost 101 percent above average.
