Heavy rains lash capital (Lead)

New Delhi, Sep 2 (IANS) Heavy rains lashed the capital Thursday evening bringing some respite from the hot and humid weather that Delhiites woke up to in the morning.
Traffic jams were reported from some parts of north and south Delhi while vehicles moved smoothly in other parts of the city.

Delhi recorded a maximum of 34.4 degrees Celsius, normal for this time of the season, while the minimum settled at 26.5 degrees Celsius, two notches above normal.

The humidity level was recorded at a high of 94 percent.

A total of 5.2 mm of rainfall was recorded Thursday till 5:30 p.m.

“The sky will remain cloudy with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers Friday. The maximum and minimum temperature will hover around 34 degree Celsius and 26 degrees Celsius,” said an official of the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Delhi has recorded 703.6 mm of rainfall so far this monsoon, which is 34 percent above average.

In August alone, the capital received 455.1 mm of rainfall - almost 101 percent above average.
