Heavy rains hit Delhi again (Lead)

New Delhi, Sep 16 (IANS) A day after torrential downpour crippled the city, heavy rains again lashed the capital Friday, flooding many roads and causing traffic jams.

The Met office has forecast more showers Saturday.

Among the worst-affected areas were the Inter State Bus Terminus, the Dhaula Kuan junction in south Delhi and many parts of the populous eastern Delhi, said a traffic official.

In east and north Delhi, people waded through knee-deep water — thanks to choked drains.

“I had a harrowing time reaching my office. There was knee-deep water in Seemapuri,” said 27-year-old Ashish Bhatnagar. Many motorcycles stalled as water got into the engines.

Echoing a widely held opinion, Bhatnagar rued the inefficiency of the civic agencies.

“Even a bucketful of rain brings forth the mismanagement. What kind of capital city is this?”

Friay’s maximum temperature was 32.8 degrees Celsius — one notch below average. The minimum was 25.6 degree, again one notch above average.

“The sky will remain partly cloudy Saturday and one or two spells of rains are expected,” said the Indian Meteorological Department.
