May 28th, 2010 - 8:39 pm ICT by IANSBhubaneswar, May 28 (IANS) The western parts of Orissa continued to sizzle Friday as Bolangir town registered a maximum temperature of 44.8 degrees Celsius, the day’s highest in the state, the weather office said.
Malkangiri and Sambalpur in the region recorded high temperatures of 44 degrees Celsius each. Hirakud was 43.4 degrees, Jharsuguda 43, Sundergarh 42.5 and Bhabanipatna 43.7 degrees Celsius.
However, the coastal regions of Puri, Gopalpur, Paradip and Chandbali remained cooler at 35, 35.8, 34.4 and 36.6 degrees Celcius respectively because of a thunderstorm in the region, an official of the Bhubaneswar meteorological centre told IANS.
The maximum temperatures recorded in state capital Bhubaneswar and its nearby Cuttack city were 35.6 degrees and 35.8 degrees Celsius respectively.
The heat wave conditions will continue to prevail in the state during the next two days though light rain may occur in isolated places, the official said.
An official of the state revenue control room said deaths due to sunstroke since March have remained at 34.
