Haryana shuts schools due to soaring heat
May 26th, 2010 - 11:23 pm ICT by IANSChandigarh, May 26 (IANS) The Haryana government Wednesday asked all schools in the state to shut May 27-31 due to heat wave conditions in the region.
“We have decided that all government and private schools would remain closed in the state May 27-31 due to scorching heat. This decision has been taken keeping in view the problem of students, especially the children in the junior classes,” said Haryana Education Minister Geeta Bhukkal.

“However, the staff, both teaching and non-teaching, would attend the school as usual,” she announced.
In Haryana mercury remained above normal in most parts of the state.
Hisar town was the hottest at 47.9 degrees Celsius, seven notches above normal.
Ambala and Karnal towns recorded a maximum temperature of 44.1 degrees and 45 degrees Celsius respectively.
