Fresh snowfall intensifies cold wave in Himachal

Manmohan Singh Shimla, Dec 13 (IANS) Fresh snowfall in higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh Sunday intensified the cold wave across the state, a weather official said.
“Fresh moderate snow in higher reaches of Lahaul and Spiti, Kinnaur and Kullu districts strengthened cold wave across the state,” Manmohan Singh, director of the meteorological office here, told IANS.

He said that Keylong, the district headquarters of Lahaul and Spiti, was the coldest in the state with the minimum temperature recorded at minus 3.9 degrees Celsius.

Popular tourist destinations Shimla and Manali witnessed cloudy weather throughout Sunday.

Shimla recorded the maximum temperature at 13.4 degrees Celsius, a slight fall against Saturday’s 13.8 degrees Celsius.

However, towns located in lower hills registered a marginal rise in the day temperature.

Sundernagar and Dharamsala recorded a day temperature of 21.4 degrees Celsius each, while Bhuntar recorded 19 degrees Celsius.

Kalpa in Kinnaur district registered a maximum of 5.8 degrees Celsius.
