Four day conference on efficient cities and transportation
December 2nd, 2011 - 11:01 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Dec 2 (IANS) Seeking ways to make cities undergoing rapid urbanization livable, clean, energy efficient and sustainable, a four-day conference would be held here with participation from technology and service providers from across the globe, a statement said Friday.
The Urban Mobility India (UMI) Conference cum Exhibition is an annual event of the ministry of urban development and will be held from Dec 3 to 6. It is a platform for the exchange of information and ideas on sustainable mobility.
“A large number of people who are switching from non-motorised, non-polluting modes of transport to motorised, polluting ones. The need of the hour is to come up with greener and efficient transport solutions,” said the statement.
“It will act as a forum for networking between technology and service providers, policy makers, practitioners and officials in urban transport from India and abroad,” added the statement.
Topics like public health and safety in sustainable urban transport, preventing traffic deaths and injuries through sustainable transport measures, transportation systems management and similar topics will be discussed.
The event is a collaborative effort of Institute of Urban Transport (IUT), United Nations Centre for Regional Development (UNCRD), World Health Organisation (WHO) and Japan’s environment ministry.
