Fogy morning gives way to bright day, cloudy Wednesday likely (Lead)
February 22nd, 2011 - 9:37 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Feb 22 (IANS) A thick blanket of fog enveloped Delhi Tuesday morning, causing diversion of a few domestic and international flights due to poor visibility conditions at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport, but gave way to a sunny day. Wednesday could witness partly cloudy skies. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum temperature was recorded at 22.6 degrees Celsius, two notches below average, while the minimum temperature was 10.3 degrees Celsius, a degree below average.
The humidity level ranged between a maximum of 97 and a minimum of 44 percent.
“Skies will remain partly cloudy Wednesday and the maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to hover around 24 and 10 degrees Celsius, respectively,” a met department official said.
The early morning fog caused several flight diversions as visibility dipped below 125 metres but no flights were cancelled or rescheduled.
“Four domestic flights and two international flights were diverted due to foggy conditions early morning,” an airport official told IANS.
“Low Visibility Procedure (LVP) was implemented for close to ten hours as dense fog affected the flight operations at IGIA today (Tuesday),” the official said.
Airport authorities informed that 52 flights were operated under CAT-1 (a landing aid used by pilots when runway visual range is 550 metres), 40 flights operated in CAT-II (350 metres visibility), 58 flights operated in CAT-IIIA (200 metres visibility) and 34 flights under CAT-III B (less than 200 metres visibility) when visibility went below 50 metres.
Delhi received 14.9 mm of rainfall Sunday, taking the total amount of rainfall this season to 42.4 mm.
