Fog hits air traffic in Chandigarh
January 8th, 2011 - 2:30 pm ICT by IANSChandigarh, Jan 8 (IANS) The Chandigarh airport remained shut for the fourth straight day Saturday in the wake of thick fog that hit air traffic in the region, officials said.No flights have operated from here since Wednesday.
“We are facing bad weather not only in Chandigarh but in the whole region including Delhi. Visibility is too low for flight operations,” an airport official said.
“This is beyond our control and we can only wait for the weather to become clear,” said the official.
Scores of passengers were stranded at the airport Saturday.
Most trains, however, ran on time.
Mercury remained below normal Saturday in most of Punjab and Haryana.
Haryana’s Narnaul town was the coldest at 1.5 degrees Celsius, three notches below normal. Hissar shivered at 2.4 degrees. Ambala and Karnal towns recorded 4.5 and 4 degrees respectively.
“We expect similar conditions for the next couple of days,” said a Met official here.
In Punjab, temperatures dropped in Amritsar, Ludhiana and Patiala cities to 4.4, 4.2 and 3 degrees.
