Fog, chill prevail in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh

Chandigarh, Jan 20 (IANS) Thick fog and cold weather continued to prevail in Punjab, Haryana and their joint capital of Chandigarh Wednesday as Amritsar, the coldest city in the region, recorded a minimum temperature of 0.6 degrees Celsius, three notches below average.
The residents of the region had no respite from the cold. Foggy weather, especially during the mornings and evenings, derailed normal life and adversely affected rail, road and air traffic.

The weatherman said the fog is expected to prevail for the next few days.

“Dense fog has reduced the visibility level to just 50 metres. This fog is expected to remain for another couple of days and thereafter it will start subduing. We have also observed a dip in the mercury today (Wednesday),” said a met official here.

Punjab’s Amritsar city was the coldest in the region with a minimum temperature of minus 0.6 degrees Celsius, three degrees below normal for this time of the year.

Ludhiana and Patiala recorded a minimum temperature of 5.7 and 5.4 degrees Celsius respectively.

Chandigarh recorded a minimum temperature of 5.5 degrees Celsius, which was one degree below average.

Mercury also dipped in Haryana’s Ambala city which recorded a minimum temperature of 4.2 degrees Celsius, three degrees below average. Karnal recorded a low of 5.6.
