Fog, chill back in Delhi, flights affected
February 8th, 2011 - 12:06 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Feb 8 (IANS) A day after heavy rains lashed the Indian capital, the chill and dense fog were back Tuesday. Flight operations were affected at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport due to poor visibility.Low visibility procedure was implemented early Tuesday and over a dozen flights — both international and domestic — were delayed or rescheduled due to poor visibility on the runway.
“About 18 flights were in operation in CAT III B and low visibility procedure is still on,” an airport official said.
Delhi recorded a minimum of 12.4 degrees Celsius - four notches above the normal for this time of the season.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) attributed the rain to western disturbance over the capital. However, the met office has forecast clear skies during the day.
“There was fog in the capital. The maximum temperature is expected to settle around 24 degrees Celsius,” an IMD official said.
The humidity was recorded at 98 percent.
The capital received 5.9 mm of rainfall Monday night. The sudden downpour caused traffic jams at many places and continued Tuesday morning.
According to the Delhi Traffic Police, traffic movement was slow on the Outer Ring Road, Dhaula Kuan, Anand Vihar, Naraina and Subroto Park.
